Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, NC, Unveils Biggest Payout of 2026

BRASSTOWN, N.C. — Dirt track action returned to Tri-County Racetrack on Aug. 22, as 13 Limited Late Model drivers competed for a $2,500 payday and 14-602 Crate Late Model competitors fought for an $1,800 top prize.

Before the main events, Jamie Oliver, driving the No. 38, claimed $550 in pre-race awards. Oliver earned the $250 837junk.com overall fast-qualifier bonus before starting from the inside pole and leading all six circuits to win the $300 Carroll’s Mountainside Construction Inc. Dash for Cash. The win secured Oliver a front-row starting position in the A-Main next to David Payne (No. 8).

In the 602 Crate Late Model division, Shawn Chastain (No. 100) secured the $250 Hayesville Trailer Sales quick-time bonus. Chastain then jumped out front ahead of Booger Brooks (No. 148) and led wire-to-wire to win the division's dash.

The 25-lap 602 Crate Late Model main event rolled out first, featuring an intense duel between Chastain and Brooks. Capitalizing on his inside pole position, Chastain grabbed the early lead while Brooks stayed glued to his rear tire tracks. A mid-race caution bunched up the field.

On the ensuing restart, contact between the top two drivers triggered a Lap 18 caution when Chastain suffered a flat left-rear tire. After his crew replaced the tire, Chastain rejoined at the tail of the pack, allowing Brooks to assume the point position. Once in command, Brooks powered away to claim a commanding win.

The Limited Late Model main event followed, with "The Coach" David Payne rocketing out to the early lead. Oliver kept the pressure on, sparking a relentless door-to-door battle for the top spot. Lap after lap, Oliver worked the low line and peeked under the leader but could not finalize the pass. "The Coach" held firm through all 25 laps to earn the hard-fought feature victory.
